The City of Kaufman, county seat of Kaufman County, is the oldest community in the area of the "Three Forks" of the Trinity River that has been continuously inhabited. The "Three Forks" (West Fork, Elm Fork, and East Fork) region was known as a rich, fertile area which served as an Indian hunting ground and at the end of the l830s contained the largest Indian village east of the Brazos River.

Welcome to the Kaufman Heritage Society website. The Downtown Kaufman Association  recently merged with The Kaufman Heritage Society, and together they continue to collect, preserve and perpetuate the historic heritage of Kaufman by encouraging the love of local history; supporting investigation, study and research into the historical information pertaining to Kaufman; and preserving  people’s histories, historical sites and structures of Kaufman. The Kaufman Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 non-proft organization. The group meets the first Thursday of the month at 6pm at the First Presbyterian Church (little white church with a steeple) on Mulberry St., in the fellowship hall.
